Rainbows

Rainbows are the youngest members of The Guide Association, aged 5 to 7 years. Parents can read about the Rainbow Guides on the Girl Guides web site by clicking here (opens new window).

Rainbows also have their own activities area of the Girl Guides web site, (opens a new window) where they can play games, read stories and try activities.

St Margaret's Rainbows meet on Tuesday evenings during term-time only in St Margaret’s Church Hall. The meetings include games and crafts appropriate to their age group.

Recent activities have included:

  • - making lollystick teddies
  • - a volcanoes evening, where we found out about these amazing burning mountains
  • - and an exciting drum circle evening, when we discovered everyone has rhythm - even if some of us do 'drum to our own beat'!

We're sorry, but there is a long (currently 18 month) waiting list for this Rainbows group.

Mums or grown-up big sisters (over 18), have you ever considered volunteering to help with the Rainbows? We offer full training & support, and qualifying to be a Leader not only helps the Rainbows but can boost your confidence to bring out the best in you too - and it looks great on your CV if you are considering a career working with children! You can read more about volunteering here (opens a new window).

Girlguiding Centenary 2010

We started our celebrations on 5th September, when over 5,000 members of Leeds County had a fantastic day on Wetherby Race Course. Although cold and windy, we had great fun from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nearly everybody took part in the FUN RUN (for some a walk or a wheelchair push!). Look out for our medals at the February Parade Service. After lunch, there were activities for all ages – bouncy castles, climbing walls, line dancing, cycling, and loads of small games organised by Trefoil Guild members (Look at the January Parade and find out who they are). 82 buses transported some very tired but happy people home at the end of the day.

So, we will continue in 2010 to celebrate in many ways. The Rainbow, Brownie, Guide and Senior Section Programmes will encourage us to try many new challenges and adventures. Already our Rainbows have taken part in “Changing the World” and had a very successful “Books for Africa,” when we were all brought books, bought books back and in this way contributed to the buying of new books for the children in Africa. Well done, Rainbows.

Brownies did a Christmas Good Turn and have given bulbs to at least 24 of the congregation who have been members of the Guide Movement in the past 100 years!!! Guides are busy looking at the History of Guiding. We will try to give you a regular report of our activities and hope you will enjoy the celebrations with us.
